Annual Tyler Bastian Field Session 

Named for Maryland's first state archaeologist, this intensive field session is hosted by MHT and the Archeological Society of Maryland each spring. Participants take part in authentic archaeological work from excavation to lab processing. 

  • Open to the public; no prior experience required
  • Typically held over 11 days in late May
  • Learn methods, contribute to research and help uncover Maryland’s history 

Workshop in Archaeology

Hosted by MHT and facilitated by the Archeological Society of Maryland, the Workshop in Archaeology takes place in early fall. 

The event features a keynote speaker, short talks, and hands-on activities about Maryland’s prehistoric, historic and underwater archaeology.  

Maryland Archaeology Month 

Each April, MHT collaborates with the Archeological Society of Maryland, the Council for Maryland Archaeology, and other partners across the state to celebrate Maryland’s archaeological heritage. The month includes events like: 

  • Field days and site tours available to the public
  • Lectures, exhibits, and demonstrations of archaeological methods, including a Spring Symposium
  • Special events at museums and state historic parks
