Architectural Fieldwork Symposium
March 26, 2026 | 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM | In Person | 100 Community Pl, Crownsville
Sessions will provide ample opportunity for discussion and questions. Various presenters – including Maya Davis of Riversdale House Museum, Peter Morrill with the Maryland Park Service, and Christopher Marston of NPS Heritage Documentation Programs – will share work on a wide variety of topics. Projects to be highlighted include paint analysis, women scientists and design at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, the new Maryland State Roads Civil Rights Context, and an update to the project nominating the works of early women architects to the National Register.
There is a non-refundable registration fee of $15.00 for students and $30.00 for the general public. Registration includes light morning snacks, coffee, lunch, and afternoon snacks.
Scouts BSA Archaeology Merit Badge Workshop
This event is free and open to currently registered scouts under the Scouts BSA program. A parent or guardian must accompany the scout for the duration of the program. Light refreshments will be provided at both the lecture and fieldwork days.
April 25, 2026 | Lecture Day | 100 Community Pl, Crownsville
On the lecture day, scouts will participate in discussions and activities to complete many of the Archaeology Merit Badge requirements. This will include presentations from archaeologists, a tour of the archaeology lab, an experimental archaeology activity, and more.
May 2 & 3, 2026 | Fieldwork | Fort Frederick State Park, Big Pool
During the fieldwork day, Scouts will conduct excavation work and screen for artifacts at Fort Frederick State Park. Scouts must attend the lecture day to attend the fieldwork day.
