Maryland Historical Trust

MHT Roadshow

Image of people sitting around a table in a bright room, looking at a projector screen displaying 'PROGRAM SCHEDULES' for Maryland historical grant applications. An MHT banner stands to the left of the screen.

Learn about Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) programs, activities and funding opportunities through mobile outreach events tailored to your needs. The MHT Roadshow serves homeowners, local governments, nonprofits and anyone interested in Maryland’s historic and cultural places – especially groups and communities with limited experience in these programs.

Attend a session

Each year, MHT Roadshows offer a mix of virtual and in-person educational opportunities across Maryland.

  • Two virtual sessions typically cover general preservation programs and financial incentives.
  • Two in-person events rotate among Maryland’s regions annually to reach different audiences.
  • All sessions include time for questions and discussion with MHT staff.

Upcoming dates, registration details and presentation materials are posted on MHT’s Upcoming Events page as they become available.

What the presentations cover

Each MHT Roadshow presentation is tailored to its audience.

We offer standard one-hour presentations and customized briefings on specific programs. Longer-format presentations on financial incentives include application tips and sample projects.

Topics often include:

  • Introduction to MHT: What we do and how our programs connect
  • Historic Preservation Capital Grant Program: Funding for acquisition, rehabilitation, restoration and other capital projects
  • Historic Preservation Non-Capital Grant Program: Funding for architectural and archaeological research, survey and documentation
  • African American Heritage Preservation Program: Capital grants for African American historic sites
  • Maryland Heritage Areas Program: Support for heritage tourism and community enhancement projects in Maryland’s 13 certified heritage areas
  • Maryland Historic Revitalization Tax Credits: Incentives for rehabilitating historic commercial buildings and private homes
  • Architectural Research and Survey: Tools and resources for documenting historic places
  • Project Review and Compliance (Section 106): How MHT reviews state and federal activities, including grants, permits and other undertakings

Why attend

The MHT Roadshow gives Marylanders an easy way to:

  • Learn about funding and technical assistance for preservation projects
  • Get practical advice from MHT staff about eligibility and applications
  • Explore programs that support local governments, heritage organizations and private owners
  • Ask questions and connect directly with program managers

Request a local MHT Roadshow

Staff may be able to deliver MHT Roadshows by request for local and regional audiences. To do this, we require a partner organization to host and help market the session. This can include local governments, planning commissions, historical societies, and nonprofit organizations.

If your organization would like to host a session:

  1. Identify your audience and preferred topics.
  2. Submit a request through our online form or by contacting MHT staff.
  3. MHT will assess availability and contact you to discuss.
